Our Favorite Hikes of 2024: Discovering Nature's Beauty

Updated: Jan 10

Hiking is more than just a hobby—it’s an opportunity to reconnect with the natural world and witness its landscapes before they’re altered by time. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or looking for a family-friendly adventure, the outdoors has something for everyone, offering a chance to explore, appreciate, and protect the planet we call home.

Every trail tells a story, and through our personal hiking experiences across various states, we've uncovered some hidden treasures. From breathtaking vistas to relaxing hot springs, here are my favorite hikes that promise to refresh your spirit and create unforgettable memories.

Goldstrike Canyon Trail - Boulder City, Nevada

Goldstrike Canyon Trail, located in the Mojave Desert, offers a remarkable mix of stunning views and relaxing hot springs. This hike is known for its captivating scenery, boulder scrambling, and the chance to soak in warm, mineral-rich waters after a rewarding trek.

The Goldstrike Canyon Trail is rated as difficult and is best suited for those with some experience and sturdy hiking boots. There are several fixed ropes to aid hikers in navigating the steep ascent to the hot springs, but it can be tough, particularly when climbing back up. Although the trail allows leashed dogs, after personally hiking it, unless your dog is essentially a mountain goat, it might be best to leave them at home.

You'll encounter stunning rock formations, towering canyon walls, and colorful desert plants along the route. The highlight? A tranquil hot spring oasis nestled among the rocks, perfect for relaxing and reflecting on your journey. A word of warning for those unfamiliar with hot springs - visitors are advised not to put their head underwater due to the potential presence of Naegleria fowleri, a rare but dangerous amoeba found in warm freshwater environments.. Although infections are extremely rare, it's a precautionary measure that's easy to take when swimming or submerging yourself in the hot springs.

The trail's switchbacks descend to the water's edge, making the trip rewarding. Upon arrival, take a moment to enjoy the view and explore the shoreline, jump into the nearly 2,000' (594m) deep water, or a boat tour is another option to fully appreciate the lake's beauty.

Unfortunately, Cleetwood Cove Trail is and will be closed for the 2025 and 2026 summer seasons due to extensive construction work and short construction seasons.
